Variable Products allow you to create a single product with multiple variations, such as size, color, or style. Each variation can have its own price, stock level, SKU, and image. This is especially useful for products like clothing, where customers may want to choose from different sizes or colors.
Example: #
For a t-shirt, you can offer variations such as Small, Medium, and Large, and further customize them with different colors like Red, Blue, or Green.
Steps to Create a Variable Product: #
1. Add a New Product:
- Start by adding a new product.
- In the Product Data dropdown, select Variable Product.
2. Create or Select Attributes:
- Attributes define the variations of your product, such as Size or Color.
- If the attributes you need already exist (e.g., size or color), select Add Existing.
- If they don’t exist, click on Create Attribute to make new ones.
3. Creating Attributes:
- First, give your attribute a name. This acts as a category for your variations, such as Size or Cup Size.
- After naming it, click Create Attribute.
- A new field will appear under the attribute name. This is where you’ll add the specific variations (e.g., Short Cup, Tall Cup). Hit enter after typing each variation.
- Ensure that the box labeled Visible on Product Page is checked so customers can see and choose these options.
4. Create Variations:
- Scroll down to the Variations section and click on Add New Variant.
- Depending on the number of variations you’ve created (e.g., 2 cup sizes), you’ll need to add a variant for each combination.
5. Customize Variations:
- Once the variants are listed, you can customize each one. This includes setting:
- Price (must be set for the variant to be visible).
- Sale Price (optional).
- Stock Status.
- SKU.
- Images.
- Shipping Information (weight, dimensions).
- Description.
Key Points: #
- Pricing: Each variation must have a price set for it to be visible to customers.
- Flexibility: You can create multiple combinations of variations, giving customers a wide range of options for a single product.
- Stock Management: Manage stock individually for each variation.
This is a highly flexible product type, ideal for businesses selling products with multiple options.
