The Accounts and Privacy Settings section allows store owners to manage account creation, customer privacy, and overall account management in a manner that complies with privacy standards and enhances the customer experience. Here’s a breakdown of the available settings:


Guest Checkout:

  • Allow customers to place orders without an account:
    • This setting enables a guest checkout option, allowing customers to complete their purchases without needing to create an account. It streamlines the purchasing process, particularly for customers who may not want to commit to creating an account. However, it’s important to note that purchasing a subscription still requires an account to manage access and details.



Login Options:

  • Allow customers to log into an existing account during checkout:
    • This option permits returning customers to log into their accounts while going through the checkout process, facilitating a faster and more personalized experience.



Account Creation:

  • Allow customers to create an account during checkout:
    • This setting gives customers the option to create an account while making a purchase, providing a seamless transition from guest checkout to account creation.
  • Allow subscription customers to create an account during checkout:
    • This option specifically enables customers who are purchasing subscriptions to create an account at the time of checkout, ensuring they can easily manage their subscriptions.
  • Allow customers to create an account on the “My Account” page:
    • This allows customers to register an account directly from the “My Account” page, which is a standard feature in many e-commerce sites.



Account Management Features:

  • Automatically generate an account username for the customer:
    • When customers create an account, this setting allows for an automatic generation of usernames based on their name, surname, or email address, simplifying the registration process.
  • Send the new user a link to set their password:
    • This feature ensures that new users receive an email containing a link to create or set their password, enhancing security and user experience.



Account Erasure Requests:

  • Remove personal data from orders on request:
    • This option allows store owners to remove personal data from orders if customers request account erasure.
  • Retain or remove personal data within orders:
    • Store owners can choose whether to retain or remove personal data from orders when fulfilling an account erasure request.
  • Remove personal data from subscriptions:
    • Similar to order data, this option allows for the removal of personal data related to subscriptions upon customer request.
  • Remove access to downloads on request:
    • Store owners can revoke access to downloadable files and clear download logs when processing account erasure requests.
  • Bulk personal data removal:
    • This feature adds an option on the orders screen that allows for the bulk removal of personal data from orders, noting that this action cannot be undone.


Privacy Policy:

  • Registration Privacy Policy:
    • Store owners can include a statement that informs users how their personal data will be used during the account registration process. A link to the privacy policy can be provided for customers to review.
  • Checkout Privacy Policy:
    • Similar to the registration privacy policy, this option allows owners to specify how personal data will be used during the checkout process. Additional text can be added to enhance transparency about privacy practices.
